Shoulang yam is an ancient dye used by the Pangcah for fishing nets and workwear. Natural tannins, making nets vanish in the ocean, strengthening fibers for heavy use. Betel nut and Fukugi trees are other ordinary plants from the Hualien landscape.
The whole process from preparation and extraction to the final simmering of naturally dyeing the Woven Triangle Bags is done in Kamaro'an's Hualien studio. Each bag goes through three full cycles of dyeing and mordanting. Colors and textures shift with the seasons, the weather of each boil.
Notes:
*Natural-dyed pieces are dyed by hand, so slight color variations or small spots may occur.
*Care is similar to denim: colors may fade with sunlight and long-term use, and may rub off slightly when wet or with friction.
*The leather handle is removable. For natural-dyed canvas, please wash gently with clean water.
