Burke Mercantile Green Business Network

As of March 2023, Burke has been Re-certified as a California Green Business implementing practices to prevent pollution, reduce waste, conserve energy, save water, and operate more sustainably by exceeding regulatory requirements.

Energy Efficiency:

-We use energy efficient LED lightbulbs throughout our space for maximized energy efficiency.

Store Supplies & Operations:

-We use an Ecotank refillable ink printer.

-We have designated trash and recycling bins in store and outside of building to appropriately recycle.

-Our Tissue paper comes from No Issue Co which offers paper that is FSC certified, and printed with soy based inks on acid-free paper. The FSC or Forest Stewardship Council certifies that the paper products that make up our printed tissue paper are sourced from a forest and supply chain that is managed responsibly and sustainably. With each order, a tree is planted in our home state of California. We also use home compostable mailers from their company for some of our online shipments as opposed to plastic/poly mailers.

-Our other shipping supplies include recycled paper mailers, recyclable corrugated cardboard, and compostable, renewable, and EcoEnclose plant-derived cellulose packing tape.

-Any bubble wrap, air bubble, packing peanuts, or packing paper we use is 100% reused and recycled from our inventory shipments we receive. By re-using these, we've never had to buy any new packing material. We encourage our customers to re-use them when possible as well.

-Our shopping bags are 40% post-consumer, 60% post-industrial paper, are 100% reusable, recyclable, and compostable. Our shipping boxes and shopping bags are also sourced nearby in Orange County to reduce the carbon shipping footprint.

-Our shipping labels are made from 100% recycled paper.

-Our business cards are printed on 100% recycled cotton paper from fashion industry waste.

-We use natural and non-toxic cleaning products, reusable towels, and 100% bamboo or recycled paper toilet paper.
